Acai Berry – Drink For Good Health
June 6, 2008

Haven’t heard of it yet? Where have you been, under a rock? Acai is a berry that grows in similarity to a grape but high up in an acai palm tree located in the floodplains or swamps of the Amazon rainforest. This little purple berry has been causing quite the stir around the globe for a few years now, the most popular moment is perhaps when it made the top of the superfood list on Oprah’s talk show. Not just near the top but the number one superfood on the list was acai. That brought a whole new surge on demand for this amazing berry. The acai berry has been and continues to be studied for all its goodness. What have we found out so far? That the benefits do not seem to stop. The antioxidants help to reverse or prevent damage to all parts of our bodies caused by free radicals. The healing process then can take place in our bodies helping almost every inch of us whether we realize the effects or not. Cancers, diabetes and heart conditions are just some of the few medical problems that have shown possibilities of preventing, eliminating or easing through acai fruit. Acai is also a great source of healthy fats, fiber, vitamins and minerals and amino acids. The healthy fats are the ones that help our bodies rather than hinder it while the fiber aids the digestive system and detoxifies the body as it makes it’s journey. This leads to other benefits. Amino acids build the proteins that are needed in our body to do just about anything and of course the vitamins and minerals are what help the proteins and other parts of our body to get their jobs done. Those that chose to add acai to their dietary intake can find many ways to ingest the berries. Acai is available as many forms – purees, extracts, capsules, powder, pre-made food products and juices. Juices are the most popular form by many to get their added dose of acai each day. Acai juices also have many options. Choose from pure acai juice or a juice blend. Pure acai juice will obviously give you the most benefits in a concentrated amount. However, the unique taste of acai berries have people turning to juice blends to get their dose of greatness. Many juice blends are combined with other magnificent nutrient-rich fruits for a wide-spectrum of nutrition as well as better taste. The pure juice can sometimes have an additive to preserve, add bonus benefits or flavor it like with cane sugar to sweeten or guarana for increased energy. Another thing to watch for is using the acai seed as a filler in pure acai juice, it has not been proven to add any benefits so will not add anything to the juice except to make it stretch the product. Buying an acai product juice or otherwise is easy with the Internet. You may also be able to locate acai on store shelves or in freezer aisles of your supermarket, especially a natural foods market.
